What is a banana connector?

 
A banana connector (commonly banana plug for the male, banana jack for the female) is a one conductor (single-wire) electrical connector used for joining wires to equipment. The plugs are also frequently used to terminate patch cords for electronic test equipment.

Some Warner Instruments that accommodate banana plugs and jacks include the SIU-102 Stimulus Isolation Unit, the TC-324/344B Temperature Controllers and the  EC-825A Dual Channel Epithelial Voltage Clamp, among others. Also the Planar Lipid Bilayer Workstation uses banana jacks for all its ground connections.
