Heated platforms use a feedback thermistor (the big white one on the CC-28 cable) that is placed into the platform body. With this thermistor in place the controller will not allow the platform to overheat.

In any case, heating a platform beyond what the controller will allow will not cause any adverse effects in the materials since platforms are made from aluminum.
