Does the thickness of the fiber bundle help to determine the brightness of a fiber optic cable?

Yes, the larger the active fiber bundle size, the more light will be transmitted.  In other words, a 4.7mm fiber bundle will not be as bright as a 5.4mm fiber bundle, all else being equal.
