What are the differences between round and slotted inserts?
Round and slotted inserts can be interchanged provided the tissue is large enough. Usually, a slotted insert is employed for a small diameter intestinal section. The extra length increases the surface area while accommodating the small width.
Why would I select pins over o-rings in an Ussing System?
If the basement membrane is strong enough, then pins can be used. It is easier to stretch the membrane over the hole with pins.If the tissue is more fragile, then you must use o-rings. The tissue can be held into place during assembly by placing a small amount of vacuum grease around the o-ring.
